Wedding Photography at Sandhole Oak Barn, Cheshire

Some places were just made to hold wedding ceremonies. Sandhole Oak Barn in the heart of the Cheshire countryside is one of the most idyllic locations in the North West and certainly one of my favourites. Situated next to a tranquil lake, it’s also a great backdrop for stunning wedding photographs.
Armed with my trusty camera and a range of different lenses, my first job is to capture the preparations leading up to the wedding celebrations for Sarah and John. This is usually one of the more intimate moments of the day where everyone is a bit nervous as we build up to the ceremony.
The job of the documentary wedding photographer is to spot those golden moments that tell the story of the day. These can come and go in an instant, so you need to know what you are looking for and be ready.

Capturing the Wedding Ceremony

The ceremony is where you want to make sure you capture all the traditional images. It’s not just about the pomp and circumstance but the emotion as well. Added into that, as a wedding photographer you have to be as unobtrusive as possible while still getting the shots that the couple are going to love when they look at their photo collection later on.
Fortunately, the wedding party were all in high spirits and it was easy to capture the joy and love in the room as Sarah and John exchanged their vows.

The Wedding Celebrations

As the day and evening wore on, there was plenty of opportunity to find some really great shots. For the wedding photographer it’s all about keeping an eye out and watching the dynamics of the room. It’s also where my mid-telephoto and wide angle lens come in handy. The former allows me to get close up details while the latter is great when you need to fit more into the frame. As a photographer you can’t afford to be too shy but you always need to be polite if you want to get that exceptional shot.
